Meet Nick Sullivan, our Kingscliff Senior IT Consultant

by Charina Warne (Sydney Office) | Jun 14, 2016

What excites you about IT?

Currently it’s lifestyle Tech. Drones, audio, video, Cloud Enabled Hardware. Anything that enables the average person to integrate and operate anywhere in the world whenever they want.

When you first started with Dorchester you were based at the Sydney office. What made you choose Kingscliff as your new home?

Lifestyle/Kids and Family. Sydney is a big place. I want my kids to appreciate the world in a way that I feel the city doesn’t always allow you to.  That and the Kingscliff office is across the road from the beach J.

Have you seen any great technological advances in the IT industry lately?

The latest webinar on Meraki cloud enabled hardware was quite an eye opener. Impressive UI and feature set in a price point that is accessible to most of our customers. Limetechs Un-Raid is one that I have been playing around with recently, too – it’s another product that right now is in its infancy but might be a major influence in the Virtualization world in years to come.

What do you love the most about your job?

It’s always evolving. You can be sure that what we are doing now will change considerably in 2, 5 and 10 years’ time.

When should clients start looking at upgrading their server/s?

This is a tough question. Servers that are adequately covered by warranty support, are running the same software packages since deployment and are maintained correctly, can remain in operation until they become too costly to maintain. Environments that have changed over time, and are suffering in performance due to hardware that was scoped for a different purpose than they originally had, are good candidates for a hardware refresh. At the same rate, a simple upgrade of system hard drives from SAS/SATA to SSD is reviving old hardware with a minimal budget hit.

3 IT tips you would recommend for most businesses?

  1. Always consult your IT consultant.
  2. Review all your options carefully.
  3. Have a budget to work to so we can find you the best solution that fits your requirements.

When you are not helping people with their IT, what do you like to do?

Besides helping family and friends with their IT ;) Surfing, fishing and exploring.

Where is your dream holiday destination?

Anywhere with good waves, fresh powder or tight lines.

What is the number one thing on your bucket list?

To never have a bucket list – just keep doing things regardless of whether I’m here for a long time or just a good time.
